Tonight Greg and I went to see Garth Brooks in concert at the Staples Center. Let me tell you...He knows how to put on a show. Thanks Jen for the Christmas present and Michelle for the free babysitting!! It was awesome. Here are some pictures and a video.....

He finished therapy!!
Yeah!! Today was Dad's last day of occupational therapy! His hand therapist who has worked with him for now 5 months said "He has made a remarkable recovery." Though we will miss seeing her smiling face, we are glad that he no longer needs it. Way to go dad!!

Covina hoping for another undefeated Valle Vista run

Public high school sports teams are filled with neighborhood athletes, but winning with neighborhood athletes and sustaining a level of success is becoming rare.
Club teams have taken over virtually every sport during a time of specialization. The best players don't necessarily wind up at their local high schools but instead shop around for the best program, just like a graduating senior looking for a college.
That's what makes the Covina High School girls basketball team so unusual.
This isn't a team that has CIF championship banners on its gym walls, but what the Colts have accomplished and continue to build on for the fourth consecutive year under coach Greg Gustafson simply is remarkable.
The Colts finished 27-2 last year and lost in the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division III-AA playoffs to eventual champion Marlborough, a private school filled with club talent.
It was supposed to be the end of a wonderful three-year run for the Colts, especially following the departure of senior Blaire Egardo and her 19 points per game.
But seniors Chantel Diaz and Ashley Adams have more than just picked up the slack for Covina. Adams is averaging 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds and is a workaholic on defense.
Diaz is averaging a team-leading 15 points, along with six rebounds per game. Together, they haven't allowed the Colts to take a step back.
Covina is 17-1 and eyeing another undefeated run in the Valle Vista League after a 2-0 start.
This is a Colts team that is 44-3 over the past two seasons. And if they run the table again in league, as most expect, the Colts would head into the Division III-AA playoffs with a four-year record of 96-13 and four consecutive league titles.
"It's very satisfying," said Gustafson, who took over the program in 2001. The Colts had a 4-21 record the season prior to his arrival.
"It's nice to know that when you're winning and having success, you're doing it the right way," Gustafson continued. "We've been fortunate enough to have success with kids in our area who believe in what we're telling them and are willing to put in the work to have a successful program.
"Our only two losses last year were to private schools that could recruit if they chose to. That's very satisfying that we beat everyone else. It's never going to be a level playing field as long as we compete against private schools. But it sure feels good to have the success we've had despite those obstacles, if that's what you want to call them."
Gustafson said he never lets the Colts become satisfied with what they've accomplished.
"I think we've continued to have success because we're not ready to just sit back and enjoy it," he said. "If you get happy with what you've accomplished, you will go backwards."
Adams, a four-year varsity player, has been there every step of the way .
"I didn't think we would be this good," Adams admitted. "Everyone had to step up, and I knew I would have to step up with (Egardo) gone. We're a close team that plays hard every night and we compete. We don't like to lose."
Adams, in fact, would love to replay her team's lone loss, a 70-68 setback during the Rowland tournament.
After winning the Wilson and Covina tournaments to open the season, the Colts would have loved to have won the Rowland tournament and had a chance to go undefeated into the playoffs.
"I wanted to play (Downey) again that night," Adams said. "But it is what it is. We're still doing pretty good."
The most difficult part now is sustaining their hunger and remaining sharp in a league in which the Colts clearly are head and shoulders above the rest.
"You hate to say that league is easy for us, but you have to keep improving," Diaz said. "That's what this team is about."
Diaz enrolled at Bishop Amat as a freshman, but that changed during the Colts' resurgence to Downey with the success Covina was having . She returned to Covina as a sophomore, but hadn't taken a big step forward until this season.
"I didn't stand out that much last year because I didn't have to," Diaz said. "That was Blaire's job and she did it well.
"As a senior, it was my time to step up. I didn't know I would be leading the team in scoring, but I knew I had to step up and be more of an impact player. Next year it will be someone else, but everyone has a big part in it. That's why we do so well."
Gustafson isn't sure how far this team can go in the playoffs, since the division is loaded with good teams such as Marlborough, Pacific Hills, St. Paul and Magnolia. But if the pairings come out favorably, he likes Covina's chances of making another deep run.
"Realistically, we're probably the sixth- or seventh-best team in our division," Gustafson said. "But it's all about matchups. We faced the best team in the quarterfinals last year. If the pairings work out, we have a chance to get back to the quarters or possibly take that next step. You never know."
Whatever happens, the program remains in good shape.
"I think so," Gustafson said. "As long as we keep getting the quality individuals that we've been getting, we'll be fine."

She's 3 months old
I can't believe that my baby is already 3 months old. She is 24 inches long and weighs about 13 pounds (my guess). Time has flown by so quickly, but Greg and I are enjoying every moment we have with her. Alison amazes us and keeps us smiling everyday. She loves swinging in her swing and watching the Baby Einstein videos that her Auntie Dana gave her for Christmas. She has become so vocal and loves to tell you about her day. Her newest thing is that she has started to giggle and laugh when you talk to her. It is so funny and just melts our hearts. Greg and I are so blessed to have such a great baby. Her chubby cheeks and thighs assures me that she is eating VERY well and mom has remained sane because she sleeps ALL NIGHT long! Yay! I will post some recent pictures when I get them off my camera!

He's going back...
Yes...Dad was released to go back to work on Monday!! Yay..and boo at the same time. We are all incredible blessed that he has recovered miraclously well that he is good enough to return back to work. His accident was only 5 months ago!! Dr. Evans told my dad and I that if Dad was a cat this accident used up 5 of his 9 lives. That's how bad he was. Alison and I are going to miss him the most since we won't have anyone to take us to lunch anymore. What the heck are we going to do..starvation is upon us!! Lucky for us Dad gets to retire in one year exactly and his co workers have assured us that once he is back out in the field they will take extra good care of him for us. Dad tells us he will be safe because "I will never step near a transformer AGAIN!"
Oddly enough, Dad was the worst injured out of the three speaking in terms of critically injured and will be the first to return to work. Gabe will have to undergo another surgery as his index finger does not close as a result of the skin graft that he needed. Everyday we continue to think of Phil and admire the tough fight that he fought. He will always be remembered by the guys at the department! Dog House watch out...Wolfie is back!!

Her ears are pierced!!
So today I kind of got brave and went had Alison's ear's pierced. I say kind of brave because I had to have Dana and Nana Jan go with me. Nana held her head for me because I couldn't do it! I think it hurt me more than her. She cried just a bit and quited down right away. Now we can get her daddy to buy her some real diamond earrings (maybe her and mom could get matching ones!). We are headed to Seattle!!!
Alison and I are going to visit Nina Lisa at the end of the month!! Yeah..We are soo excited. It will be Alison's first plane trip! Daddy is sad because he will be away from his girls, but he will survive!! Here we come Washington......

Happy New Year
